John Cena is set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam later this month, and this week Reigns and Cena met in the ring face to face and cut promos on one another.
Back in 2011 it was CM Punk who defeated John Cena to become WWE Champion at Money in the Bank, and after the match was over Punk blew Vince McMahon a kiss, walked out through the crowd, and took the title home. Cena referenced Punk’s big moment on SmackDown this week when he said the following:
“Roman, you’re gonna put on a hell of a show, but I’m just gonna hang in there for 1, 2, 3. And then I’m gonna take your title, jump the barricade and run out of Allegiant Stadium as fast as I can. I may even blow you a kiss goodbye.”
CM Punk reacted to the reference when he posted an Instagram story featuring photo of Voldemort from the Harry Potter series who is often referred to as “You Know Who” and “He Who Must Not Be Named.”
Cena also made a reference to current AEW star Jon Moxley when he told Roman Reigns that he forced Dean Ambrose out of the WWE, and into another company.
It’s rumored that CM Punk is AEW bound. Stay tuned for updates.
