After almost two years of hype CM Punk finally made his MMA debut when he faced off against Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in September. Unfortunately for Punk he lost the fight in 2 minutes and 14 seconds, and his future with UFC remains unclear.
UFC president Dana White recently appeared on “UFC Tonight” on FS1, and he commented on CM Punk’s future with the promotion, and judging from his comments another fight in the UFC seems unlikely for Punk.
“Is CM Punk going to be a guy who is going to stay in the UFC and continue to fight? Probably not. But he wanted to try it. I like the guy. I respect the guy. He wanted to fight in the UFC. He wanted to do it. He trained for two years, and he did it.”
During the post-fight press conference at UFC 203 Punk told the press that he intends to keep on fighting.
Former WWE World Champion Alberto Del Rio was recently appointed the president of Mexican MMA promotion Combate Americas, and he has said that the door is open for CM Punk to work with the promotion. Del Rio recently spoke with the Roman Show, and he had the following to say about Punk possibly working with Combate Americas:
“I would love to have him in Combate Americas. He’s actually one of my best friends in the business. We spoke before and after his fight. I know he’s getting a lot of haters, a lot of people are criticizing what he did in his first fight, but we got to give him some credit. He went and tried it and did the transition from pro wrestling to MMA. He had the cojones to do it.”
