The annual Royal Rumble premium live event aired over the weekend and the show gave fans plenty to talk about. CM Punk entered the 30 man Royal Rumble match at number 27, and he was one of the final two competitors left in the ring, but ultimately Punk was eliminated by Cody Rhodes.
Following the Royal Rumble there was some speculation among fans that CM Punk may have suffered an injury, and on Monday it was reported that the former WWE Champion suffered a torn triceps during the match.
CM Punk kicked off this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw as he made his way down to the ring for a promo segment with his right arm in a sling. The fans loudly chanted “CM Punk” before Punk could even say a word.
The Second City Saint stared at the WrestleMania 40 sign as he was seemingly trying to hold back tears. He said he came real close on Saturday night and he felt like he had it in the palm of his hand. Punk said he’s not mad at anyone then he congratulated Cody Rhodes.
CM Punk said he’s never believed in luck, but he feels unlucky. He confirmed he tore his right tricep during the Royal Rumble match. The former WWE Champion said he looked into every option when it comes to staying active through WrestleMania. However, it’s just not in the cards for him.
As he was speaking Punk said he doesn’t want anyone to feel sorry for him. CM Punk said he loses more than he wins then asked the fans if they saw him fight in the UFC. He said he had an opportunity to fight in the UFC, so he said yes because it scared him. Punk said he had to return to WWE because it scared him.
CM Punk said that his injury is just a bump in the road and he vowed to continue entertaining the fans until the wheels come off. Punk said again that WrestleMania 40 is not in the cards, but there’s always next year.
Drew McIntyre interrupted Punk then made his way down to the ring. The Scottish Warrior noted that he’s said some terrible things about CM Punk in the past, but he can relate to what Punk is saying. McIntyre said he wanted Punk to know that he prayed for this and it happened. The fans booed.
After taking a few more shots at CM Punk, Drew said he’s going to go on to main event WrestleMania and live CM Punk’s dream. Punk said when he gets back he will main event WrestleMania, but the first thing he’s going to do when he gets back is go after McIntyre.
CM Punk and McIntyre brawled for a moment then McIntyre got the upper hand and stomped on Punk’s arm. Sami Zayn came out to make the save. He attacked McIntyre then Drew left the ring as WWE officials checked on CM Punk.
