CM Punk took his run with All Elite Wrestling to the next level on Sunday night when he defeated “Hangman” Adam Page to become the new AEW World Champion.
During the match CM Punk attempted to hit Adam Page with the Buckshot Lariat twice, but unfortunately for Punk he was unable to pull off the move without difficulty as he fell to the mat during both attempts. After the show was over Punk addressed the botched attempts at the post-show media scrum for Double or Nothing, and he simply noted that it was a mistake.
“That’s one of those f*cking things. That’s the only time that I’ve missed it since I’ve tried it, and I did it on TV, and I just didn’t hit it for whatever reason, and it sucks. But that’s the fun thing about pro wrestling, I’m more comfortable when sh*t goes f*cking sideways, and not everything needs to look perfect, in my opinion. I’ll probably beat myself up about it way too much, but, you know, mistakes happen.”
After the match CM Punk celebrated with FTR, and he referenced the botched move while hugging Dax Harwood as he said, “from now until I retire, make sure you always tell me to never attempt the Buckshot Lariat ever again.”
Stay tuned for more updates on CM Punk and his AEW World Title reign as they become available.
