Chris Jericho Wants To Become The Brock Lesnar Of New Japan Pro Wrestling

Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega really tore it up at Wrestle Kingdom 12 in their match but there are likely many more to come for Chris Jericho in New Japan Pro Wrestling. After all, Y2J showed up to attack Naito the next night at New Year’s Dash.

But Jericho is obviously proud about his accomplishment in NJPW and he has all the right in the world to be extremely pleased with himself. Alpha vs Omega told an incredible story from start to finish and it kept fans on the edge of their seats during the build-up and the match itself. Jericho and Omega also put something together that would never be allowed in WWE complete with blood and a couple middle fingers.

The Ayatollah Of Rock n Rolla recently spoke to Busted Open Radio on Sirius/XM where he said this was a great example of Jericho drawing money. “WWE or WrestleMania, that is a brand, people are going no matter what. I think in this day and age WWE is the biggest draw. But for Wrestle Kingdom that wasn’t the case. There were certain goals that New Japan had that were blown out of the water with the announcement of Alpha and Omega.”

He said they sold 35,000 tickets and last year New Japan sold 26,000 in the same building for Wrestle Kingdom 11 headlined by Okada vs Omega. Y2J revealed New Japan had an additional 35% increase in New Japan World subscriptions two days before the show as well. Therefore, this is a huge feather in his cap and he’s taking it. “It was Mayweather and McGregor in a lot of ways, it was a match they never thought would happen,” Jericho said.

Chris Jericho continued in putting himself over and it was well deserved. Jericho said he wanted to keep the ball rolling but not over saturate. He went on to say he wanted to take over the Brock Lesnar role in New Japan and choose his spots wisely.

A lot of it will depend on Jericho’s schedule, availability of opponents, and his health. But Y2J is in great shape so it looks like the only thing we have to worry about is making it work schedule-wise. Needless to say, there could be plenty more outstanding matches in New Japan for Chris Jericho in the future.
