Fans know that anything can happen when they watch a professional wrestling show, and back in December Sting made his surprise debut when he arrived during the special Winter Is Coming edition of AEW Dynamite.
Since then All Elite Wrestling has also signed other established names such as Paul Wight and Christian Cage, but those signings were promoted on social media and other channels in order to build hype.
Chris Jericho discussed AEW’s recent signings on Talk Is Jericho, and he noted that after Sting debuted TNT told the company that they didn’t want surprises.
“I thought it was cool too because I know when we had Sting has a surprise, the network was like, don’t do that again. That’s why Paul Wight was announced on social media because TNT said we don’t want surprises. We want to take advantage of the rating. So I think we had a big surprise, then we had a big announcement and then we use that big announcement to announce the next big surprise. I think that’s one of the reasons too to kind of spread it out a bit as well.”
