CM Punk’s AEW contract was terminated back in September which led to fans talking about a possible WWE return for the Second City Saint. Punk did indeed return at Survivor Series in Chicago last month, and the wrestling world is still processing the fact that Punk is part of the WWE roster once again.
Chris Jericho has been with AEW since the early days, and it was rumored earlier this year that he wanted to face CM Punk inside an AEW ring, but ultimately the match never came to fruition. Jericho recently spoke to Chris Van Vliet about CM Punk’s WWE return, and he explained why it didn’t surprise him.
“I mean it doesn’t surprise me. I mean it’s the Vince attitude like if you can make money with somebody then you bring them back. He brought back the nWo, he brought Bischoff in. Yeah, and Vince isn’t in charge. But Triple H learned from Vince once again and the fans, keeping the fans entertained and happy man look, he came back and it was the highest viewed social media segment that they’ve ever had. So once right out of the gate, it was a benefit to them. So it didn’t surprise me.”
