A few years ago NXT and AEW started going head to head on Wednesday nights, and for the majority of the Wednesday Night Wars it was AEW that came out ahead in the ratings. Triple H recently reflected on the Wednesday Night Wars during an interview when he said, “Look, first of all, they beat our developmental system? Good for them, right? [laughs]”
Chris Jericho responded to Triple H’s comments while speaking with Inside The Ropes and he accused Triple H of changing the narrative in regards to NXT vs. AEW.
“It’s just changing the narrative and changing the history, which makes me laugh. Because when it started, it was not developmental, it was a third brand, and ‘It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon,’ and all the other bulls*** that they said. NXT sucks. It’s not a good show. They know it … They probably were punished. That’s probably why Triple H said those things, because he’s angry that we beat them, and he probably is angry that we exist.”
Jericho then doubled down and added that AEW will continue to exist when he added, “We don’t care about WWE,” Jericho said. “We care about building our fan base and building our ratings. We will continue to exist, because I’ll tell you this: My boss has a lot more money than his boss does. A lot more.”
