Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega might have left it all in the ring during the second to last match of Wrestle Kingdom 12 on January 4th, but not even 24 hours later, it looks like Chris Jericho isn’t done with New Japan Pro Wrestling just yet. Because he’s attacking a man who was in the other main event of the evening in the Tokyo Dome this year.
Y2J popped up at NJPW’s New Year’s Dash event where he jumped Tetsuya Naito from behind in surprise fashion. Although he didn’t bust Naito open, this sneak attack certainly spoke volumes about Jericho’s intentions.
It should stand to reason that Chris Jericho and New Japan’s relationship might be a longer one than just one match. After all, Jericho’s new “Alpha Club” t-shirt is settling out of Hot Topic stores all over the place as part of their New Japan t-shirt line. So there is obviously money to be had in that partnership as well as some pretty exciting possibilities when it comes to other incredible people in New Japan that Jericho could have a match with.
Naito and Jericho could be a barnburner of a match as well and it looks like it very well might happen at this point. After all, they’re probably not teasing it for no reason. We’ll just have to see when this match will go down. But the important part is that something is obviously still going on between Chris Jericho and NJPW.
Although he was attacked from behind, this didn’t seem to change Naito’s state of mind as he still displayed a little bit of his classic personality after a random assault from The Ayatollah Of Rock n Rolla.
In all honestly, Naito vs Jericho should get people pretty excited as well. Tetsuya Naito might not be as big of a name as Kenny Omega in the United States (yet) but the leader of Los Ingobernables de Japon has a huge following that is only growing more as he continues to put out amazing matches like the one he delivered in the final match of Wrestle Kingdom 12 against Kazuchika Okada.
Now it looks like Naito will have Chris Jericho to deal with eventually which is just a very exciting prospect indeed.
