Chris Jericho surprised the entire pro wrestling world when he appeared on the screen at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Power Struggle and challenged Kenny Omega to a match for The Cleaner’s IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 12. The match was set and the war of words on Twitter had been transitioned into something very real.
But there are new developments to this rivalry because after Kenny Omega’s victory over Rocky Romero at NJPW’s World Tag League show, the lights went out and another countdown started. Most people expected to see Chris Jericho appear on the screen and cut a scathing promo on Omega which is what happened. Jericho said Omega would face his greatest test at Wrestle Kingdom 12, but it didn’t stop with just words that night in Fukuoka.
When the lights came back on, Chris Jericho was in a New Japan Pro Wrestling ring standing behind The Cleaner ready to go. Y2J hit a massive Codebreaker on Omega and continued to pummel on him for a good bit. Kenny didn’t get any offence in and was even bloodied by this attack. One thing’s for sure, they got their message across.
The Young Bucks raced down to chase Jericho off and tend to Kenny Omega. Chris Jericho left up the ramp looking like a true heel. They’re building old-school heat for this match and it’s going to be at a massive boiling point by the time Wrestle Kingdom rolls around if this angle is any indication of things.
It only goes to show that you never eveeer know where Y2J is going to show up next to share The Gift Of Jericho. Wrestle Kingdom 12 is going to be a huge show highlighted by a few epic matches. But Kenny Omega vs Chris Jericho is shaping up to be one nobody should miss and everyone will probably be talking about for some time to come.
