Chris Jericho shocked the world over the weekend when he challenged Kenny Omega to a match at Wrestle Kingdom 12 in January. There’s been a lot of speculation regarding Chris Jericho’s status with WWE, but despite a recent report from Tokyo Sports claiming otherwise, it appears that Jericho is indeed a free agent at the moment.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Jericho has been a free agent since May, although he did work a few dates for WWE as a free agent over the summer.
Jericho is still on good terms with Vince McMahon and WWE, but the company was not involved in his deal with NJPW.
It’s also being reported that Jericho is expected to return to WWE in 2018. His exact return date is unknown but people close to the situation are saying that he could return on the 25th anniversary episode of Raw in January with the idea being that his return would be a bigger deal because he would be returning shortly after his match at Wrestle Kingdom.
As of right now his match with Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom is a one time deal with NJPW.
