John Cena has been calling out The Undertaker for weeks now, and even though he hasn’t answered the challenge, it’s expected that we’ll be seeing some sort of face off between Taker and Cena at WrestleMania on Sunday.
With Kid Rock being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year, there’s been some speculation that we could see the return of American Badass Undertaker at the Show of Shows.
However, Chris Jericho recently called in to Busted Open Radio, and he said that he would be a little disappointed if Taker ends up bringing the American Badass back.
“American Bad Ass is a pretty cool character, and Taker loves it, but guess which character Vince McMahon loves? It’s the Undertaker, Vince’s greatest creation. I’ll be the devil’s advocate to you guys – I would feel a little disappointed if it was the American Bad Ass, because I love the Undertaker, and I love that entrance, and you’ve been out there when you hear that bell and the druids chanting – it’s second to none. There’s never been an entrance like that in wrestling, in my opinion, and we’ve been waiting for it, teasing for it, for so much I feel if it was the American Bad Ass it would be a little bit of a downer – for me.”
Bully Ray then brought up the fact that Busted Open ran a poll on social media, and he noted that 70 percent of people who voted said they wanted to see the American Badass.
Jericho went on to say that he thinks there are going to be a lot of fans in attendance at WrestleMania who don’t even know who the American Badass is, and due to the fact that WWE hasn’t aired any video packages promoting the gimmick, it could leave some people confused.
He added that there are a lot of fans who just started watching over the last 3 or 4 years, and he said that he’s 100% certain we’ll be getting The Deadman.
“So, once again, in my opinion, the hardcores would like to see it cause it’s something different, whereas your general, average wrestling fan will go nuts when the Undertaker’s music hits and I think, I’m a 100% certain, that it’s gonna be the Undertaker at WrestleMania, and not the American Bad Ass.”
At this stage of his career it’s unknown how many matches Taker has left, as many thought that his match with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33 was his last.
Keeping that in mind, Taker is year to year, so if he does wrestle a full match against Cena on Sunday, that match could also be his last.
By bringing back the American Badass, Taker could potentially run the risk of not closing out his WrestleMania career with his iconic Deadman character, but one way or another he’s got us all guessing heading into Mania.
