Chris Jericho and AJ Styles have found themselves wrapped up in a rivalry recently. Chris Jericho was the first man AJ Styles beat after joining the WWE roster but the veteran didn’t take the loss all that well. Following the defeat, Jericho challenged AJ Styles to rematch which took place last week on SmackDown and Jericho was able to score a victory over Styles.
Now the two WWE Superstars are 1-1 against each other and on Raw AJ Styles made a challenge to Jericho for a rubber match. But Chris Jericho loves to play mind games so he made him wait until SmackDown for an answer.
On last night’s SmackDown the two met in the ring only for Chris Jericho to decline AJ’s challenge one more time. Frustrated, AJ then attacked Jericho who followed up by grabbing the mic and making their rematch official for Fastlane. You can check out the altercation in the video below.
Now the rematch is set and each man has a lot to prove both to themselves and to each other. Who do you think will win the rematch at Fastlane? The former 6 time WWE World Champion Chris Jericho, or WWE newcomer AJ Styles?
On a related note, the rematch the two had last week on SmackDown didn’t exactly go over as planned. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the original plan was to have AJ go to the top rope only to be tripped by Jericho. Jericho was then supposed to pin Styles and win the match.
But when Jericho went for the pin, he had his foot under the rope so the referee didn’t count it. Referees are instructed to call the matches as a shoot which is what the ref did. Jericho hit the Codebreaker shortly after for the improvised win.
Speaking of Chris Jericho, it looks like he will be working with WWE past WrestleMania 32. Jericho is currently being advertised for the April 12 SmackDown tapings in San Diego. It’s not known at this point exactly how long he will be sticking around for.
