Orlando hosted WrestleMania nine years ago and at that time Charlotte was just a fan in the crowd. She was there that night to watch Ric Flair’s final match against Shawn Michaels. It was an emotional night to say the least as she witnessed HBK retire her famous father. Tears were shed and memories flooded our minds as the referee counted to three with The Nature Boy’s shoulders were pinned to the mat.
Charlotte shared a picture on Twitter recently which captured a very sentimental moment in time for the Flair family as well as the entire professional wrestling world. It was very hard to see Ric Flair wrestle his final WWE match. He had a legendary in-ring career that fans thought would never end. But, nothing great can last forever.
Charlotte has her hands full at WrestleMania 33 on Sunday where she will vie for the Raw Women’s Championship in a fatal four-way match against Bayley, Nia Jax, and Sasha Banks. But today marks the nine year anniversary of Ric Flair’s monumental match against Shawn Michaels and Charlotte took some time away from preparing for her own WrestleMania moment to remember Ric Flair’s last one.
Charlotte said she can’t wait to walk down the same aisle Ric Flair did in Orlando. We can’t wait either and hope this year’s Mania match will be as great as her father’s epic encounter against Mr. WrestleMania in 2008.
WrestleMania week is starting in Orlando and the city is preparing in a big way. They’ve already installed promotional banners on lights. We love it when cities who host Mania do this kind of thing because it only adds to the appeal and makes the event seem all that much more important.
Images of Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, and Sasha Banks are now lining the sidewalks in O-Town. We’re sure there is probably more where that came from too.
Construction on the WrestleMania set has already started and we’re now a week away from the show of shows. So, who’e excited? Because, we certainly are!
