This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite was the special Grand Slam edition of the show and Hook defended his FTW Championship against Roderick Strong during the show. Both men fought hard, but in the end it was Hook who managed to retain the championship when he made Roderick Strong tap out.
After the match Hook celebrated with the belt as he stood face to face with the Undisputed Kingdom. Roderick Strong showed respect to Hook by shaking his hand then Matt Taven and Mike Bennett did the same before leaving the ring.
Hook then made his way to the announce table where he spoke to Tony Schiavone who explained that Taz debuted the FTW Championship back in 1998 only three miles away in an Elks Lodge.
It was then that Hook thanked every wrestler who has ever competed for the belt on behalf of his family. He thanked the fans for supporting the championship. Hook said that all good things have to come to an end, and that as of this moment the FTW Championship is officially retired. He handed the belt to Taz then hugged his father before he left.
