Chael Sonnen Takes A Shot At Goldberg, Goldberg Responds

It’s safe to say that in the world of combat sports, not everyone is going to get along, otherwise they wouldn’t have much reason to beat each other up.

Everyone has an opinion, and a few years ago Vince Russo brought up his opinion of Goldberg on Chael Sonnen’s podcast, and he said that during his time in WCW, Goldberg started to buy into his own hype.

Sonnen also talked about Goldberg, and how he got blackballed from the world of MMA. Sonnen did praise Goldberg by saying he was doing well as an announcer and he was training in MMA, but he also talked about why he was run out of the business.

“He got into MMA, and they gave him an assignment which was to go in the ring and interview fighters after their fight. This guy would go in there, and he didn’t understand that he was 300 plus pounds. He would get in the ring, he would talk the part, but he would also talk scary in terms of just looking scary. Then he would do a physical mannerism that ran him right out of the business. He’s in the ring with the fighters, Jake Shields stands out. Jake Shields had just defended a World Championship, he’s the baddest dude in the world. He’s also half the size of Bill Goldberg. The mannerism I’m talking about is, he puts his arm around the fighter, makes him look small, and then proceeds to shake him, and the true World Champion is just moving around like a leaf in the wind. It made him look so small. He may have just learned right now when I said that, why he’s out of the business.”

A fan brought these comments to Goldberg’s attention on Twitter and asked him what he thought. Instead he got a response from Chael Sonnen who told the fan his first mistake was asking Goldberg to think.

Eventually Goldberg did chime in when he responded with the following:

Chael Sonnen has never been shy when it comes to saying what he thinks, so it’s no surprise here that he decided not to sugarcoat his comments.

However, it seems unlikely that this feud will extend beyond social media at this point.

Chael Sonnen has claimed in the past that he turned down a $5 million dollar offer from WWE, but he recently fought at Bellator 192.

As for Goldberg, he’s set to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on Friday, April 6.
