Austin Theory had a big night on Monday as he got to confront his hero John Cena and challenge him to a United States Championship match at WrestleMania 39. Cena berated Theory, but eventually he accepted the match and now the two stars are set to do battle on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
However, it seems that Austin Theory is also dealing with some other issues as the Hudson Valley Post is reporting that Vik Dalishus and Hale Collins, known collectively as a tag team called The Now, have sent WWE cease and desist letters in regard to Theory calling himself “The Now.”
“My initial reaction was shock, because of the fact that we have had it copyrighted since 2006, and there’s many people in WWE who know Hale and I, know our names, and know we own it.” Dalishus added, “We have sent two cease and desist letters to WWE, they acknowledged one, and said they would look into it. Looking into it doesn’t stop it from being on TV.”
Hale Collins of The Now confirmed to the Hudson Valley Post that they have sent two cease and desist letters to WWE regarding the trademark, but that hasn’t stopped Austin Theory from using it on TV.
“We have sent two cease and desist letters to WWE, they acknowledged one, and said they would look into it. Looking into it doesn’t stop it from being on TV,” Hale Collins said.
WWE did not respond to a request for comment, but the NWA tag team have confirmed that the next step will be a lawsuit. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
