Paul Heyman is widely credited as coming up with Brock Lesnar’s iconic catchphrase Suplex City. WWE has capitalized on its catchiness by selling tons of merchandise clade with road signs proclaiming people are entering Brock Lesnar’s township.
Some claim Taz was actually the first to come up with the Suplex City phrase at WrestleMania 22 during a Kurt Angle match. But new evidence has surfaced that neither Taz or Paul Heyman were the first to utter the now famous phrase.
One fan of Tony Schiavone’s “What Happened When” podcast recently sent out a tweet that contained evidence it might have actually been Tony Schiavone who came up with the term.
While the matter of who originated the Suplex City phrase might still be a matter of debate it currently belongs to The Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar. The reigning, defending WWE Universal Champion will keep taking people to Suplex City whenever he steps in the ring. Lesnar delivered 10 astonishingly brutal suplexes to Goldberg at WrestleMania 33. Therefore it’s safe to say he’s going to be holding down the key to Suplex City for the time being.
But it’s still really interesting to see the old saying still stands true that nothing is ever completely new.
The Revival and Team DIY have traveled the world working barn burners against each other. These four men captured the Match Of The Year honor at the 2016 NXT Year End Awards and it was well-deserved. Now that The Revival are moving on to be the Top Guys on Raw, Team DIY are left to their own devices in NXT. Johnn Gargano of Team DIY recently sent out a really cool tweet to his former foes.
Gargano said The Revival should focus on Mondays and they’ll keep holding down Wednesday nights. It is actually kind of emotional and gets us a little choked up. But we know this can’t be the last time these two spectacular teams meet. After all, it could be very much in the cards that #DIY and The Revival might be making town to meet on WWE’s main roster very soon.
