When WWE comes to a city for a big four PPV they do it well. NXT usually brings a TakeOver special the night before the big main roster event that really sets the bar for the next night.
This year’s Survivor Series will be no different because the day before the big show Houston will play host to NXT TakeOver: WarGames. They’re finally bringing back the classic gimmick match idea after seventeen years and WWE has owned the name for most of those missing years.
But the day before NXT TakeOver: WarGames there’s something very special going on in San Antonio because Drew McIntyre will defend his NXT Title against Adam Cole. But to make it an even bigger deal Shawn Michaels is stepping in as a special guest referee.
Shawn Michaels has been a referee many times before so this should be no sweat for HBK. But there’s an almost non-existent chance this will eventually lead to an in-ring return for the Heartbreak Kid. So don’t get your hopes up… probably.
It’s also a real shame this very special event isn’t taking place on the WWE Network too. But there’s a really good reason why WWE is pulling out all the stops for the San Antonio NXT house show.

On the same night McIntyre and Cole will square off with HBK watching over them, ROH is going to be across town and they’re always known to bring a huge crowd. If their recent Global Wars tour is any indication of things it will be an amazing show with a fantastic crowd.
The Young Bucks are promoting the ROH event by saying the Bullet Club is “invading” San Antonio. It makes me wonder if they have another epic episode of Being The Elite in the works that will involve them standing on Vince McMahon’s doorstep once again.
