Things change fast in the professional wrestling industry and earlier this week Alexa Bliss revealed that she’s pregnant. Alexa’s baby is due in December which means that she’ll be out of action for the rest of the year.
Even though Bliss will be out for a long period of time she confirmed that she plans to return to WWE, and she also confirmed that the company has extended her contract due to the time she’s set to miss.
Alexa Bliss is far from the only wrestler to have their contract extended as Dave Meltzer recently noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Bryan Danielson holds an interesting record for WWE contract extensions as he signed a three year deal that ended up lasting seven years.
“Bliss noted that she hopes to return to wrestle in 2024 and that WWE had extended her contract, basically freezing it from the time she stopped. At least she knows that since a lot of the talent that had asked to leave over the years were hit with the idea that when they thought their contract was up, it wasn’t because of it being frozen. Bliss didn’t appear to have any issue with it. The record was Bryan Danielson signing a three-year deal that ended up lasting seven years.”
Bryan Danielson’s situation with WWE was unique to say the least as the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion was forced into early retirement only to return to the ring a few years later. Currently he’s wrestling in AEW.
As for Alexa Bliss, she noted that she will likely start preparing for an in-ring return a month after her baby is born, so we’ll have to wait and see what 2024 holds for the former Raw Women’s Champion.
