Hulk Hogan and “Macho Man” Randy Savage crossed paths many times throughout their careers. Hogan and Savage eventually became friends through working together and formed a bond that lasted through the years.
To this day, Hogan speaks fondly about his friend who is sadly no longer with us. On a recent episode of Something To Wrestle With, the guys talked about “Macho Man” Randy Savage and his Macho Madness for over four hours. There were tons of amazing stories told about working with Macho Man for years of outstanding matches.
When Hulk Hogan ran in to save Randy Savage it was to get Randy over by “sprinkling a little Hulkster dust on him.” The Mega Powers were created and the rest is history. Co-host Conrad Thompson then asked Bruce Prichard when Hogan and Savage’s friendship was really taken to a different level.
“To the best of my knowledge, I remember them being friendly. I don’t know that they were the best friends in the whole wide world,” Bruce replied. “They became that way later on actually as the Mega Powers grew and the story line grew they became friends.”
“At this time (in 1987) you know, two guys. Hogan was Hogan. He was on another stratosphere especially in 1987 coming off the heels of WrestleMania III. And you’re always looking for the next guy. Who’s gonna be that next big guy to step in? So yeah, I think they were friendly but I don’t remember them being best buds, hanging out.”
Sadly, Randy Savage didn’t get to see his WWE Hall Of Fame induction but it’s still pretty likely if he had to pick one person to induct him it would have still been The Hulkster.
