The Broken Hardys Are Reportedly Leaving TNA, Why They Aren’t Re-Signing And More

The Broken Hardys are a very hot topic right now, as it’s been reported that their contracts with TNA are set to expire this week. For months now people have been talking about what The Hardys might do next and now it looks like they’ve decided not to sign new deals with TNA.

PWInsider reports that unless something major changes over the next few days, Matt and Jeff Hardy will be leaving TNA when their contracts expire.

Matt and Jeff Hardy verbally agreed to the terms of their new contracts in December of 2016, but they never signed. The contracts were reportedly given to The Hardys a few weeks ago and they arrived late due to the changeover with TNA management. Apparently they were unhappy with the rushed nature of having to sign and there were also some disagreements about some of the language used in the contract.

Pro Wrestling Sheet adds that the deal was supposed to be for a one year contract and after weeks and weeks passed Matt was constantly checking in, but The Hardys were given the runaround. When they finally received the contract it was instead for a two year deal, as opposed to the one year deal they had agreed to.

Their lawyer reportedly told Impact Wrestling that they wanted a creative control clause in their contract and officials shut that suggestion down right away.

As most fans have figured out by now, creative freedom seems to be a huge priority for The Hardys at the moment, as their Broken Universe has reinvigorated their careers. It’s also being reported that if The Hardys were to sign new contracts with TNA they would not have the same creative control that they have now under the new regime.

The contracts they were offered also reportedly included a clause that would require TNA to approve all of their outside bookings and they would have to pay the company 10% of their earnings from independent events.

The Hardys are the current TNA Tag Team Champions and they have offered to appear at this week’s Impact tapings so they can drop the belts, but as of right now the two sides have not come to an agreement on how to handle the situation.

Matt and Jeff Hardy have been on their Expedition of Gold which has seen them travel to various wrestling promotions to capture as many tag team titles as possible. Jeremy Borash had been traveling with the team filming footage for upcoming episodes of Impact, but with the current situation it looks like that material will likely be dropped.

There is interest from WWE and once Matt and Jeff Hardy’s TNA contracts expire the two parties would be able to negotiate. It’s not known at this time if WWE would be interested in bringing in The Hardys under their current gimmick, or if they would want them to revert to their old gimmick for nostalgia purposes if the team does decide to return.

One way or another, it’s going to be a very interesting week for The Broken Hardys.
