A few months ago shortly after Brock Lesnar won the WWE Championship we wrote a few articles talking about how Lesnar’s title reign could potentially be a big step forward for the company. As recent weeks have shown, Brock’s title reign has been anything but.
Brock has been absent since Night of Champions and although his absence has been felt, it hasn’t been nearly as noticeable as the absensce of the WWE Championship. WWE is currently without a champion and if the rumors are true, Brock won’t be wrestling a match until the Royal Rumble in January 2015. We get that WWE wants to make Brock a special attraction but they’re going about it all wrong.
It seems as though WWE is only thinking about the endgame with a total lack of concern for everything in between. Brock Lesnar’s title reign is rumored to end at WrestleMania at the hands of Roman Reigns. The plan is to build up Brock as unstoppable so that Reigns looks like a white knight when he defeats him. It’s not a terrible plan but WWE is missing out on a huge opportunity to build more stars in the meantime.
WWE could be using Brock at least once a month having him defend the title against a different up and comer at each pay per view to build their roster. So why aren’t they? Any wrestling fan would be thrilled to see Brock face off against Sheamus, Cesaro, Dolph Ziggler, Ambrose and others. Even if these superstars lose to Lesnar it still increases their name value simply by being in the ring with him. Every wrestler is going to take losses along the way and there’s no shame in taking a loss to Brock Lesnar.
A part time champion is one thing but not appearing for months at a time is something different entirely. Whatever details WWE has to iron out from a contractual standpoint to get more appearances from Lesnar, they should be ironing them out quickly.
WWE should be trying everything they can to get every last bit of mileage out of this title run. We want to see new fresh faces take on Lesnar. WWE has a huge opportunity to use Lesnar to make their up and coming talent look larger than life which is something the WWE desperately needs right now.
Brock Lesnar doesn’t care about the wrestling business, we get that. But the fact that the WWE Champion is sitting at home while he could be building a better future for WWE makes it seem like the company itself doesn’t care about the wrestling business either.
