One of the hottest topics in the wrestling community over the past few years has been stars from the past returning to work a part time schedule in WWE. Some people don’t have a problem with it while others find it appalling that WWE would snub the full timers while the part timers get all the glory. The topic has divided fans and no matter which side of the fence you sit on, it’s not hard to see why part time workers getting the spotlight is a controversial subject.
At SummerSlam Brock Lesnar absolutely decimated John Cena and became WWE Champion. WWE fans have watched Cena tear through his opponents like a sheet of paper for the past 10 years so watching him take such a massive beating was a breath of fresh air. Now we have Brock Lesnar as the WWE Champion which raises the question, is Brock Lesnar as WWE Champion what’s best for business?
The last part timer to win the belt was The Rock and although he is certainly a legend in this business, he didn’t need the title and his WWE Championship reign was a complete joke. The Rock barely appeared on TV during his title reign and when he wasn’t on TV he wasn’t even really hyped up via a video package. Besides that it seemed like a forgone conclusion that The Rock winning the title was just a setup for another John Cena WWE Championship reign, which made the WrestleMania 29 main event predictable and boring. But Brock Lesnar’s reign is different, much different.
Perhaps the most exciting thing about Brock Lesnar as WWE Champion is that it’s unpredictable. Although there are rumors that a certain up and coming superstar will defeat Brock at WrestleMania 31, it’s all just speculation at this point. No one knows how Brock’s championship reign will end and that’s exciting.
WWE has done a great job at building Brock Lesnar up as a beast over the past year and they’ve made him look unstoppable which will make the man who ends up stopping him the hottest star in the business. Say what you want about part timers getting the spotlight in WWE, but Brock Lesnar is the champion WWE needs right now.
The WWE Championship scene has grown incredibly stale over the past few years due to the fact that it’s always the same group of people fighting for the title. Brock as champion gives us something fresh and if he is to defend it at every pay-per-view then there are many exciting matches that could take place featuring new challengers such as Cesaro, Sheamus, Randy Orton and more. We’ve seen John Cena beat everyone in WWE but we haven’t seen Brock do it. There are very few members of the WWE roster that Brock has faced before which gives WWE the opportunity to put new people in the spotlight.
Is Brock Lesnar as WWE Champion best for business? Absolutely. Brock Lesnar as champion will give us fresh matches we haven’t seen before and when Brock is finally defeated it will give the fans another epic moment to talk about for years to come. The man who beats Brock Lesnar will be known as the man who defeated the one in twenty one and one, the man who defeated the man who destroyed John Cena, the man who conquered the beast.
WWE needs a new hero and a win over Brock Lesnar is the perfect launching pad for the next face of WWE.
