CM Punk walked out on WWE 4 years ago, but even before he parted ways with the company he was one of the most controversial figures in the world of professional wrestling.
Punk scratched and clawed as he fought to secure the top spot in WWE, and after he defeated Alberto Del Rio to win the WWE Championship at Survivor Series in 2011, he became the longest reigning champion of the modern era when he went on to hold the belt for 434 days.
WWE and Punk constantly reminded fans that his title reign was historic, but it looks like Brock Lesnar will likely be breaking Punk’s 434 day record.
As of right now Brock Lesnar’s next Universal Title defense has not been officially confirmed by WWE, but the Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes that the best bet is that Lesnar will be defending the belt at Money in the Bank in Chicago on June 17.
If that is indeed the case, that means Brock’s Universal Title reign will last at least 441 days by that point.
It seems unlikely that Brock will be dropping the belt anytime soon, but of course the one thing that’s for sure when it comes to Brock Lesnar nowadays is that nothing is for sure, as many fans expected him to drop the belt to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34 a few weeks ago.
CM Punk’s WWE Title reign was an accomplishment that will never be forgotten, but with Punk and WWE not on the best of terms nowadays, it’s not hard to see why the company would want to have Brock Lesnar’s title reign overshadow Punk’s in terms of length.
