Bret Hart Reveals Which Match Inspired Him To Return To The Ring

Throughout the course of his professional wrestling career Bret Hart was known as one of the best in-ring technicians in the business, but unfortunately his career was cut short due to injury.

However, Bret Hart made an unlikely return to WWE programming in January of 2010, and months later he ended up facing off against Vince McMahon at WrestleMania 26.

The match isn’t exactly hailed as a classic, as Bret was limited in regards to what he could do, but the thrill of seeing The Hitman face Vince was a big deal for many wrestling fans.

Hart noted during an episode of Confession Of The Hitman that he was convinced he could return to the ring after watching Vince McMahon get physical with Donald Trump at WrestleMania 23.

“It’s kind of funny because I watched Vince wrestle Donald Trump – I’m pretty sure it was Vince – and I remember going, ‘s**t, I could do that! I could wrestle Vince. I could do something, at least as much as Trump’s pulling off here.’ I remember, I thought about it, and I had my knee replaced, and I remember running up the stairs in the house in Hawaii, and the phone was ringing, and I remember when I ran up the stairs, I thought, ‘I just ran up the stairs!’ Like, that’s amazing. That’s a miracle all by itself.”

The former WWE Champion noted that he called Kevin Dunn and told him he wanted to do a storyline with Vince McMahon, but it was months before he heard anything back.

Despite his physical limitations Hart says he’s proud of the match he had with McMahon because it allowed him to let go of his past issues he had with the company.

“I’ve always been really proud of that. I know it wasn’t my greatest wrestling match, and I didn’t look that great, but I was a much older man, and I had at least one knee replacement, and I was on my way to having another one. And for me, it was all a way to make peace and say ‘goodbye’ to all the bad feelings and all that. I could be part of the WWE family again, and I’m so glad I did it. It was the best thing I could do. It set me free from all the issues that we had sort of gone through and wore me down.”
