The Montreal Screwjob is one of the most debated moments in wrestling history and it changed the course of Bret Hart’s career forever. Bret Hart put the WWE Title on the line against Shawn Michaels at Survivor Series in 1997, and it was Michaels who walked out with the gold when Earl Hebner called for the bell while Michaels had Hart locked in the Sharpshooter.

Bret Hart never submitted and the show went off the rails after the match as Michaels ran away with the belt and Bret Hart signaled his exit to WCW. Earl Hebner has previously said that he thinks the Montreal Screwjob was a work, but Bret Hart shot that claim down while speaking with K&S WrestleFest.

“That’s not true. He should know better about that. I was well under the understanding that they were going to try and screw me that day somehow. I was just determined not to let it happen.”

“Earl is a victim of being a coward. I told Earl the night before. I said, ‘They’re going to ask you to screw me tomorrow.'”

Bret Hart also recently shared his thoughts on why he feels Goldberg should be removed from the WWE Hall of Fame, and you can get more on that here.
