Goldberg was originally set to defend his Universal Championship against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 36, but The Big Dog backed out of the event due to the coronavirus pandemic, and he was replaced by Braun Strowman.
Braun Strowman made short work of Goldberg, and he managed to put the Hall of Famer away to win the Universal Championship for the first time in his career.
The Monster Among Men recently spoke to Sports Illustrated about the win, and he called Goldberg “just another victim.”
“Powerslam, powerslam, powerslam, one-two-three, new Universal champion,” said Strowman, who expressed gratitude for the chance to represent WWE as its Universal Champion. “Goldberg’s a legend and an icon, so it was a surreal thing to work with him. But it’s also a business, so unfortunately for Bill, he was just another victim in the list of people that got these hands.”
Braun Strowman is still the current Universal Champion, and it’s expected that he will be defending the belt at the SummerSlam pay-per-view next month.
