Braun Strowman has been working his way up the card for years, and at WrestleMania 36 he finally cemented his status as a top star when he defeated Goldberg to win the Universal Championship.
The Monster Among Men recently spoke to Bleacher Report about the reaction to his big title win, and he noted that sometimes he feels like it’s hard to keep the fans happy.
“I was in the title picture all of last year. Sometimes fans are fickle, and it’s hard to keep them happy. One minute, they wanted you to be champ. And the next minute, they hate you and don’t want you to be champ. I was thinking of something: ‘How can I stay relevant and do something to better our show and help our product without being in the title picture?'”
Strowman also went on to say that you can’t always be in the title picture, and that sometimes it’s good to take a step down.
“I feel like everybody always wants to be champ. Everybody wants to be in the title picture. Not always is that what’s best for our show. You have to take a step down and figure out how to fill in the gaps that need to be filled to make our product full, and that’s what I felt like I needed to do at that point.”
One way or another Braun will get another shot at championship gold when he faces Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre in a triple threat match for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania Backlash.
