Sunday night the stars of the WWE main roster took over with Barclays Center in Brooklyn for WWE SummerSlam. The event featured some huge title matches, and many of the titles changed hands on Sunday night. SummerSlam gave fans a lot to talk about the main event was arguably the most anticipated match on the card.
Brock Lesnar won the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania back in April, and he defended the title against Samoa Joe at Great Balls of Fire in July. Samoa Joe took the fight to Brock Lesnar in their one on one match, but it wasn’t enough because Lesnar put him away with the F5.
Joe demanded a rematch, but Raw General Manager Kurt Angle told him he would have to fight for it, so he booked him in a number one contenders match with Samoa Joe. Braun Strowman interfered, and it was later decided that Brock would defend his Universal Championship against all three men in a fatal 4-way match SummerSlam.
The fatal 4-way absolutely lived up to the hype, and it was a car wreck. After Roman Reigns speared Brock Lesnar through the barricade, Braun Strowman manhandled the Universal Champion. Strowman hit Brock with a running powerslam through one of the announce tables, and then he cleared off a second table and did it again.
The crowd chanted “one more table” to signal for Braun to put Brock through one more, but instead Braun Strowman lifted up the table and tipped it over onto Brock Lesnar. Medical personnel then made their way down to the ringside area, and Brock Lesnar was stretchered out of the arena.
Strowman then beat Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns down with the steel ring steps, but Roman then gained control of the steps and used them to his advantage.
Strowman got the momentum back after he chokeslammed both Joe and Reigns, but Brock Lesnar made his return and he cleaned house. However, Brock continued to sell the beating he took at the hands of Strowman throughout the match.
The match featured some great spots and many near falls that kept fans on the edge of their seats, but in the end it was Brock Lesnar who walked away with the belt.
The end came when Roman Reigns hit Brock Lesnar with the Superman Punch three times then he set him up for a spear. As Roman charged for the spear, Brock hit him with the F5 and pinned Roman clean to get the win.
After the match Brock Lesnar struggled to get to his feet, and Corey Graves said that Brock lost a piece of himself, and he may never be the same.
