Booker T On Vince McMahon Rules That He Didn’t Understand

It seems that a new era has dawned in WWE as Vince McMahon has retired and Triple H is now in charge of creative. It’s no big secret that there were a number of words that Vince McMahon banned talents from saying on WWE programming, but now the company appears to be loosening up on what people can and can not say on the air.

Booker T recently addressed the banned words on his Hall of Fame podcast and he said that he never understood why Vince McMahon put those rules in place.

“I might say the strap. I might say the belt, I might not say the heavyweight championship, I may not say the world title just because I didn’t come from that side of the street. When I get it and I figure it out, I might start talking like that, but until I get it, I want to keep my personality with the crowd.”

The Hall of Famer also added that he felt like he was going to lose his street credit with fans when WWE officials asked him to say “chagrin” during his time working as a commentator. However, he understood that company officials wanted things a certain way.

WWE has shied away from using the words “wrestler” and “wrestling” on the air, but this week on Raw during Drew McIntyre’s promo he emphatically used both words, so it will be interesting to see what other words are used in promos moving forward.
