Chris Jericho recently dropped the IWGP Intercontinental Championship to Tetsuya Naito at Wrestle Kingdom 13, and now fans are wondering what’s next for Jericho.
Following his loss at Wrestle Kingdom, Jericho declared that he wants to challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship via Yahoo Japan.
“It is a big mistake if [you] think that the time with me and [New Japan Pro Wrestling] will be over. I kept the [Intercontinental Belt] for the longest in 2018. So, let me tell you, I want to challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Belt. … Chris Jericho will challenge the IWGP Heavyweight Champion and you will understand!”
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that while Chris Jericho’s deal with NJPW expired after Wrestle Kingdom 13, NJPW officials really want to keep working with him.
New Japan wants to book the Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Chris Jericho match, and at this point it’s just a matter of the two sides agreeing to a new deal.
