Sunday night, Austin Aries defended the Impact Wrestling World Championship in the main event at Bound For Glory, and he ended up dropping the belt after Johnny Impact put him away with Starship Pain. Aries then got a lot of people talking when he no sold the finish and quickly left the ring while flipping off the fans on his way to the back.
Bryan Alvarez recently noted on Wrestling Observer Live that Aries has gone home and will not be at this week’s Impact tapings.
Petey Williams worked as an agent for the Bound For Glory main event, and he later mentioned on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast that Austin’s contract with Impact is done.
“Austin Aries’ contract is done. That’s all I’ll say. That match was his last match under contract with Impact.”
Williams went on to say that Aries wasn’t upset when told he was dropping the Impact World Championship to Johnny Impact and that his demeanor was “fine” throughout the day. He added that Johnny Impact was “fine” after the finish, and was focused on his title win and his what’s next for his character moving forward.
