AEW Grand Slam kicked off in a big way with Eddie Kingston becoming the new ROH World Champion, and the action continued in the second match of the night as Jon Moxley defended the AEW International Championship against Rey Fenix.
Jon Moxley fought hard as he attempted to defend his AEW International Championship at Grand Slam, but in the end it was Rey Fenix who walked out with the gold on Wednesday night.
Near the end of the match Rey Fenix hit Jon Moxley with the fireman’s carry piledriver and pinned him. The referee stopped at two even though it didn’t look like Moxley made any sort of effort to kick out and Excalibur noted on commentary that Moxley may have twitched. Fenix picked Moxley up and hit him with the fireman’s carry piledriver again then pinned him to win the AEW International Championship.
After the match Rey Fenix celebrated with the AEW International Championship while doctor checked on Jon Moxley. Fans on social media noted that Jon Moxley was able to walk out of the ring on his own. Stay tuned for updates.
