Last year at the AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view fans witnessed an impactful title match when Hikarua Shida challenged Nyla Rose for the AEW Women’s Title, and Shida managed to pick up the victory.
Hikaru Shida managed to defeat Nyla Rose to win the AEW Women’s Championship, and she’s defended the title throughout the pandemic. On Friday night AEW held a celebration for Hikaru Shida on Dynamite, and on Sunday night Shida defended her belt against Britt Baker at the AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view.
Before the bell rang the commentators noted that Hikaru Shida looked emotional, while Britt Baker had a “cocky smile” on her face.
At one point Rebel held up the AEW Women’s Title on the apron, and Shida got distracted. Then Rebel accidentally hit Baker with a crutch, and Shida followed up with the Falcon Arrow, but Baker kicked out. Rebel was then banished from ringside be the ref.
Britt grabbed the belt, and hit Shida with the Curb Stomp on the title, but Shida kicked out.
Shida then tried to get the momentum back, but Britt Baker put her in the Lockjaw to make her tap.
After the match Tony Schiavone hugged Britt Baker while she celebrated.
