They say that anything can happen when you watch WWE programming, and this week’s episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown featured a surprise return.
During the show current SmackDown Tag Team Champions Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura were talking backstage when they were interrupted by former Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn.
Sami showed up with his own IC Title belt, and he tried to act buddy, buddy with Cesaro and Shinsuke, but they shut him down.
Zayn apologized for not communicating with them, and Cesaro questioned why he fell off the face of the Earth for four months. Shinsuke and Cesaro then told Sami Zayn that they were having a “tag team conversation” and Sami grabbed his Intercontinental Championship belt and left.
Months ago Sami Zayn opted to not compete in WWE due to concerns stemming from the coronavirus pandemic.
WWE decided to strip Sami of the IC Title, and they held a tournament to crown a new champion. AJ Styles won the tournament to win the championship, but he recently dropped the belt to Jeff Hardy.
