For weeks now talk of CM Punk’s return to AEW has been making the rounds and he’s expected to be the star of AEW’s third show Collision which is launching next month.
It’s been reported that a Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk feud has been pitched for Punk’s return and in recent weeks Punk and Jericho met for a productive meeting.
Now Fightful Select is reporting that CM Punk has been pushing for another return opponent for the better part of a month, and it’s being said that Punk is increasingly interested in working with Samoa Joe. The last time Joe wrestled on AEW programming was when he dropped the TNT Championship to Wardlow at Revolution, but he has been a regular in ROH as he’s the current ROH TV Champion.
CM Punk and Samoa Joe have a lot of history thanks to their encounters in ROH, and their last one on one match took place in March of 2005. It hasn’t been confirmed if the Joe vs. Punk pitch was for a one off match of an extended feud. There’s also been no confirmation that the match will be happening, but it has at least been pitched.
