Saturday night during NXT TakeOver: New Orleans the first ever NXT North American Championship match kicked off the show, and Adam Cole won the gold.
Later in the night, Adam Cole competed again in the triple threat NXT Tag Team Title match when he and Kyle O’Reilly defended the belts against The Authors of Pain, and Roderick Strong and Pete Dunne.
The match also happened to be the finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, so the winners didn’t just take home the belts, they also took home the trophy.
At one point it looked like Pete Dunne had the match won for his team when he went for the pin, but Roderick Strong turned on his partner and broke it up, then attacked Dunne and placed Kyle O’Reilly on Dunne as the referee counted to three.
The Undisputed Era retained the titles, but Adam Cole and O’Reilly looked confused.
Roderick Strong then reached out his hand, took an Undisputed Era armband from Adam Cole, and put it on his own arm.
Strong, Cole and O’Reilly celebrated in the ring as they held up the NXT Tag Team Titles and North American Championship.
They made their way up the ramp and celebrated with the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic trophy as Bobby Fish made his way out on crutches to join the group.
