The first Raw of the year aired live from the Barclays Center on Monday and the show kicked off in a big way. Rhea Ripley & Iyo Sky challenged Asuka & Kairi Sane for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship in the first match of the night, and it was Rhea Ripley & Iyo Sky who walked out with the belts.
The second match of the night saw Becky Lynch challenge Maxxine Dupri for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship. Ahead of the match Ivy Nile confronted Adam Pearce backstage and told him she doesn’t care who wins, she’s not going to the back of the line, she wants a shot at the title.
Near the end of the match Becky tried for a powerbomb but Maxxine got out of it and applied the ankle lock to Becky. As Maxxine applied the ankle lock she placed her back on the mat and tried to wrap her legs around Becky’s leg for more leverage. However, Becky managed to arch her body back and pin Maxxine. Lynch held onto the ropes as she pinned Maxxine, but the referee didn’t see it and she counted the pin.
After the match Maxxine Dupri looked devastated as Becky Lynch celebrated with the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship belt while pyro went off.
