According to The Hollywood Reporter, Batista, is set to star in a remake of the 1989 action film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and world kickboxing champion Dennis Alexio. Other notable names in the film include UFC superstar Georges St-Pierre, stuntman and martial artist Alain Moussi will play the lead role, while Stephen Fung will direct (Tai Chai Zero, Tai Chi Hero).
“Alain is a star and will be an amazing leading man,” said producer Ted Field of Radar Pictures, who is producing the remake alongside Dimitri Logothetis and Nick Celozzi. “Like Vin [Diesel] in Riddick, Alain will make this movie very special and this Kickboxer will be the start of an amazing franchise.”
The film tells the story of Kurt Sloan, who is the corner-man for his brother, kickboxing champion David Sloan. After David wins the Karate World Championship, he is lured to Hong Kong by a promoter and is killed. Kurt then travels to Thailand to train and avenge his brother’s death.
