Batista On His 2014 WWE Run: “It Really Sucked”

After a few years away from WWE, Batista made his return in 2014, and it’s safe to say that it didn’t exactly go as planned. WWE assumed that the fans would embrace Batista, and accept him as the top face leading into WrestleMania 30, but that wasn’t the case at all.

Instead of cheering Batista, the fans booed him, as everyone was dead set on letting the company know that wanted Daniel Bryan as the top face. Eventually the fans got their wish, but there’s no denying that it was a bit of a messy run for Batista due to creative. The former WWE World Champion recently spoke to Daily Dead about his 2014 run, and he didn’t hold anything back.

“It really sucked. It didn’t have anything to do with me or anything, there was just a lot going on behind the scenes. t was the company, man. They really just screwed me over. I was banging my head against the wall every day. It’s one of those things, I wish people knew how hard I fought to be there and how hard I fought to just give them the best matches and performances that I could. But it was an everyday struggle dealing with the company. It was such a f***ing nightmare.”

Due to the way he left WWE in 2014, many fans assumed he had quit, but according to Batista, he actually stayed one month longer than he was supposed to.

Although 2014 might not have been the best year for his wrestling career, it was a huge year for his acting career as “Guardians of the Galaxy” became a smash hit that dominated at the box office.

The movie was released on August 1, 2014, just a few weeks before SummerSlam, and Batista says he suggested that he return for SummerSlam in order to capitalize on the hype surrounding the film, but Triple H and Stephanie didn’t see eye to eye with him.

“And not only that, but here’s how messed up they are. I said to them, because I wanted to come back for SummerSlam, “Wouldn’t it be great if I came back right when I’m also in the biggest film in the world?” Literally, it was Hunter [Triple H] and Stephanie [McMahon] who laughed at me, and Hunter goes, “We don’t even know if it’s going to be any good.” I swear to God.”

In the weeks that followed his return the fans made it well known that Batista wasn’t the guy they wanted to cheer for. According to Batista he told the company several times that turning him heel would be the right move, but it took Vince McMahon a few months to see the light.

“I walked right into Vince and I looked at him. He goes, ‘You know what, you were right. We’re going to turn you into a heel, we’re going to shove it right down their throats.’ I said, ‘I’ve been telling you this for two months.’ I think he just didn’t want to agree with me.”

If you’re hoping to see Batista return to the WWE, it doesn’t sound like it’s going to happen anytime soon. Regardless of whether or not he returns, 2016 is shaping up to be another great year for Batista, as “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is set to be released in May, and Batista recently confirmed that he has started shooting scenes for “Avengers: Infinity War” which will hit theaters in 2018.
