WWE releases have been a hot topic over the last few years as the company has released some surprising names including former Universal Champion Bray Wyatt. Dave Meltzer discussed Bray Wyatt’s release on Wrestling Observer Radio and said that it had nothing to do with Wyatt being over, or not over, and that it also had nothing to do with his gimmick.
Meltzer added, “He was fired having to do with things that I probably shouldn’t talk about, so I’m not going to start a can of worms.” It was noted that Bray Wyatt also had health issues that kept him out of action.
One of the arguments against Bray Wyatt is that with the exception of Bryan Danielson, pretty much everyone who worked with him got destroyed and had to rebuild or turn heel. Aside from booking it was noted that Wyatt sold a lot of merchandise, and the company must have thought highly of him as he was being paid almost $4 million per year. The former WWE Champion was believed to be the third highest paid performer in the company at the time behind Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns.
Following his WWE release last year Wyatt has yet to return to the ring, but he has posted cryptic messages on Twitter from time to time seemingly teasing a potential return.
