CM Punk is currently out of action, but he still has a presence in the world of professional wrestling. The former WWE Champion was in attendance for this week’s NXT tapings, and Booker claimed on his podcast that he almost had a run-in with Punk at the show when he said the following:
“I almost had a little run-in with CM Punk. The internet might want to pick that up. Me and CM Punk almost got into it at ‘NXT’ this week … We’ll talk about it later, because they’re going to pick it up and run with it.”
Fightful Select reports that there was a feeling of skepticism regarding Booker T’s comments as no source was aware of the alleged altercation prior to Booker T making comments on his podcast.
One source noted that CM Punk has not had any issues backstage since he returned and was surprised in response to Booker T making such comments without context. It’s also being said that security was not made aware of any type of altercation or incident.
NXT sources also told Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful that CM Punk has been very helpful backstage at NXT ever since he returned to WWE back in November. Punk was said to be in good spirits at the NXT tapings on Tuesday and mostly kept to himself outside of speaking with Shawn Michaels, Matt Bloom and a few people on the NXT roster. One talent who spoke on the subject even flat out denied that the altercation with Booker T even happened.
There was said to be some frustration over Booker T making such a claim given CM Punk’s history with backstage altercations. Stay tuned for updates.
