WWE releases have been a very hot topic over the last few days as a number of wrestlers were let go. Talents who were cut over the last week or so include Cedric Alexander, Blair Davenport, Sonya Deville, AOP, Paul Ellering, Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows, Isla Dawn, Giovanni Vinci and Elektra Lopez.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that none of the recent WWE releases were shocks, but Sonya Deville was a surprise. Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows were also said to have been a surprise to an extent because Anderson was injured, and WWE usually doesn’t cut wrestlers who are still recovering from surgery.
Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows previously signed with WWE in 2016 and they managed to win the Raw Tag Team Championship during their first run with the company. Unfortunately for Gallows and Anderson they were both part of the WWE releases that took place in April of 2020. In the years that followed they went on to make appearances for multiple companies before returning to WWE in 2022.
Sonya Deville originally signed with WWE in 2015 after she was eliminated from the sixth season of Tough Enough. Deville went on to capture championship gold when she won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles with Chelsea Green in 2023. In more recent months Sonya Deville had been featured as a member of the Pure Fusion Collective stable.
