On Saturday night the annual Money in the Bank premium live event aired from the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, but originally it was supposed to take place from Allegiant Stadium.
Fightful Select reports that the move surprised some in the company as Nick Khan’s big plan has been for WWE to do more stadium shows. One source believed that the company should have waited until after Hell in a Cell to see how ticket sales had changed. They also believed that WWE relied too much on the buzz of running a stadium show instead of focusing on the booking to sell the show.
Nick Khan has been a big proponent of stadium shows and doing pay-per-views on Saturdays. One source noted that although this was one of Nick Khan’s first misfires they believe that Money in the Bank would have sold 20-25,000 tickets by the time the show took place.
WWE has had to make some major changes over the last few weeks with Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton out of action. The injuries led to WWE bringing Brock Lesnar back for SummerSlam. One source commented on the changes and said, “well, considering we couldn’t have predicted all of that, and the event sold out at the new location, it doesn’t look too bad.”
