The road to WrestleMania 42 has been full of twists and turns and last week on Friday Night SmackDown, Pat McAfee was revealed to be the person Randy Orton has been talking to on the phone.
After McAfee attacked Cody Rhodes he cut a promo and said that the Attitude Era fans have been forgotten about while he declared that he doesn’t want to watch 5 foot 5 guys while Randy Orton is around. McAfee continued as he said that the business Cody’s leading has been terrible, and Randy Orton is going to save it.
PWInsider is reporting that there were talents throwing their hands up this week due to the inclusion of Pat McAfee in the Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes storyline. The concerns aren’t just about the logic of the promo as the feeling is that a match involving Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton with so much history between the two doesn’t need an extra element.
It was also noted that McAfee’s comments, which he said were not scripted, didn’t help either. It’s being said that while Cody Rhodes didn’t sell the Pat McAfee pivot to anyone, there was a feeling of sympathy for him having to carry the additional weight into WrestleMania.
