On Saturday night Damian Priest defended the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins at Money in the Bank. At one point Rollins hit Priest with a Falcon Arrow and Priest didn’t kick out. Even though Priest didn’t kick out the referee didn’t count to three and it was called a two count even though Damian Priest didn’t get his shoulder up.
Fightful Select reports that Damian Priest was supposed to kick out. It’s being said that Priest was fine following the match. If the referee had counted the three then WWE would have been backed into a corner as Drew McIntyre’s cash in would have become a one on one match, so the no disqualification stipulation would not have applied which means Punk’s attack on McIntyre wouldn’t have been legal according to the rules of the match. WWE also would have been put in a tough situation as Priest would have been forced to leave The Judgment Day due to the stipulation he agreed to before the match.
A WWE source called it an “unfortunate situation” but noted that those don’t usually happen with Damian Priest. It was noted that Priest is probably more upset about it than anyone else and no one is going to hold it against him.
No one could confirm or deny if Drew McIntyre’s music was planned to interrupt the count, but one producer said that wasn’t the vibe they got based on comments from Triple H.
