After nine long years away Edge finally made his return to WrestleMania over the weekend, and he faced off against Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match at WrestleMania 36.
Edge and Orton took each other to the limit, and at one point during the match Randy Orton choked Edge with a weight cable.
The spot received a lot of backlash because of the Chris Benoit tragedy. Benoit used a weight cable to hang himself, and the tragedy has been getting a lot of attention lately due to Vice’s Dark Side of The Ring episodes which focused on the Benoit story.
Dave Meltzer addressed the spot on Wrestling Observer Radio and noted that the editors of the match were not to blame.
It’s being reported that the match was sent directly to top officials in the company, and that someone at the top overruled other people in the company which is why the spot appeared in the match.
In the end it was Edge who picked up the win. There’s currently no word on who his next opponent might be.
