They say that anything can happen in the world of professional wrestling, and earlier today Cody Rhodes revealed that he is done with AEW.
PWInsider reports that there are some who believe Cody Rhodes will be signing a deal with WWE. Sources with WWE confirmed that the company has had talks with Cody dating back to his AEW deal expiring at the end of 2021. There’s currently no word on whether or not Cody has officially signed with WWE yet, but all signs indicate that a deal is close to being done.
Rhodes has a long relationship with John Laurinaitis, and if he signs a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment then he would be free to appear on WWE TV immediately.
It’s also being said that there is excitement among some of the WWE talents who have worked with Cody in the past. Others also noted that from a strategic standpoint Cody Rhodes would have insider knowledge of how AEW runs and operates due to his time working as an Executive Vice President for the company.
As of this afternoon Cody Rhodes was not listed internally on WWE’s talent roster, but the belief is that he could be at the Performance Center as soon as this weekend to train for his return.
It was also noted that WWE could present Cody as a big star from the jump and push the perception that the tide is turning against AEW. One source noted that if WWE gave Cody a big WrestleMania match or a title push then it would send a subliminal message to AEW talents that they would be treated the same way if they jumped to WWE.
