Last week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown featured a huge main event as Cody Rhodes challenged Drew McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Ultimately it was Cody Rhodes who defeated Drew McIntyre to win the Undisputed WWE Championship for the third time in his career.
The title win was a huge moment for The American Nightmare, but the decision to put the belt back on Cody has been met with backlash from some fans on social media. While Cody’s win received a negative reaction from some fans online that was not the case when it came to the backstage reaction in WWE.
It was noted on WrestleVotes Live Q&A on Fightful Select that there was no real backlash to Cody Rhodes beating Drew to win the Undisputed WWE Championship within WWE, and people backstage aren’t displeased about Cody being back on top.
Following Cody’s win on SmackDown is has been confirmed that he will be defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42. Drew McIntyre’s match has not been officially announced as of this writing, but it was recently reported that McIntyre is expected to face Jacob Fatu on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
